L1 Science in Human Health
Teacher in Charge: Mr K. Nair
This course will look at many of the science aspects already assessed in SCI12 but will focus on contexts relating to human health and wellbeing. It will be a pathway for students looking at a career in nursing or health sciences (N.B. not medicine, you should take SCI11 for this pathway) or who have an interest in developing their knowledge of the human body whilst still pursuing science credits at Level 1.
This subject will be primarily internally assessed and will be a balanced mix of both practical and theoretical activities. There will be strong career pathway links provided with guest speakers and tertiary providers already indicating an interest in being involved at the school level.
Science in Human Health will cover topics relating to human anatomy, disease, human life processes and some of the chemistry behind them. In addition, we intend to teach about genetics, giving students the opportunity to sit the Biology external examination, thereby offering students a pathway into BIO21 or CHE21.
